victorchandler who has been particularly active in campaigning to ensure racing is continued to be shown at last year’s level on BBC was shocked and saddened by the story in Sunday’s Racing Post.
He commented “This is the first nail in racing’s coffin and I am incredibly disappointed by the BBC’s decision to only guarantee 14 days racing in the new three-year deal. Those at the head of the Corporation have failed to support our efforts to maintain a reasonable level of fixtures on terrestrial coverage and clearly have failed to understand the place racing holds in the fabric of our society.”
Victor continued “The elation I felt when Zaynar won the Triumph Hurdle on Friday providing the syndicate of friends that I head and myself with my first Festival winner has turned into massive disappointment with this news. We can only hope that Channel 4, who once again provided brilliant coverage at Cheltenham last week, come to the rescue otherwise sadly I can see horse racing joining the minority sports league just as show jumping did some years ago. A very sad day for the industry.”
