ladbrokes plc today announced that Alan Ross, Corporate Development Director will not be standing for re-election to the plc board at the AGM on 15th May 2009 and will retire from the company on 19th July 2009.

Following his retirement Alan will continue to act as a consultant to ladbrokes. Prior to joining Ladbrokes in 1971 Alan Ross was an independent bookmaker. He first worked in Ladbrokes' shops in Dundee, before being promoted to eventually run Ladbrokes Casinos and Ladbrokes International Betting and Gaming and then becoming Managing Director of Ladbrokes Retail in 2000. Alan joined the Ladbrokes plc board in 2006.

Commenting on his retirement Chris Bell, Chief Executive Officer of Ladbrokes plc said: "Alan has made an enormous contribution to ladbrokes and the betting and gaming industry. He played a major role in developing the business from the introduction of live pictures into betting shops through SiS in 1986, to the introduction of FOBTs in 1998 and he played a significant part in our major acquisitions and disposals across the globe. We are very pleased he will continue to provide his advice and wise counsel to us moving forward and we are very grateful for his dedication to the business for the past 37 years."

From 1st January 2009 Richard Ames, 38, Managing Director, UK & Ireland Retail will be promoted to the ladbrokes plc Board. Richard joined the company in January 2005 and since that time has led a number of initiatives to ensure the retail business continues to perform well in a highly competitive environment.

Chris Bell continued: "Richard has senior executive experience in retail management and brings to the board considerable expertise not just in retail, but now in retail bookmaking. We are pleased to welcome him to the plc board."
