Great fights rewarded with points interwetten

Team interwetten Racing completed the start of the World Series by Renault season with two fantastic races at the Circuit de Catalunya. At the track nearby Barcelona, Adrian Zaugg collected valuable points both races. On Sunday, he even was on place two during the race but finished the race with the fifth place. „A great perfromance“, said team manager Michael Schneider.

„The qualifying session did not go that well for Adrian as he damaged his suspension after a driving mistake, but his performance at both races reconciled both team and driver“, said Schneider. After all, Zaugg as well as his team mate Mihai Marinescu drove such a 2009 World Series car for the first time. „Since we did not have much time for tests plus both drivers had to get used to the car and the track, we are definately satisfied with the result of the first racing weekend this season. We are looking forward to the coming race with pleasure and I am convinced that we can expect lots more the following races, commented the team manager.

The first race this weekend was not too bad but could have been better for both interwetten drivers - Zaugg finished with place 10 and Marincesu had to retire. But the second race on Sunday was rather a rain-thriller. At the start of the race, the track was dry and most teams were waiting for the pit stop to change their tyres due to the oncoming rain. The Interwetten.com Racing Team maybe kepts their nerves best as they called their drivers in at the proper time. Adrian was on position 10 when he went out to the pits and continued the race on place two.

„I am really thankfull to my team for their great strategy and the perfect pit stops“, explainded the South African whose pit stops were one of the fastest. „Unfortunately, I dropped back to the fifth place due to two braking mistakes brought on by my own fault. I’ve never had a rain test with a World Series car. It was tough to experience something like that during the race but I got used to the situation and tested the car to the borderline without ristking to lose the car.“ His Rumanian team mate finished the Sundy race with place 14.

The first season races were won by local hero Marcos Martinez, on Saturday in front of the Belgian Bertrand Baguette and the Spanish driver Adran Valles and on Sunday he crossed the finish line in front of the Esten Sten Pentus and the driver from New Zealand, Chris van der Drift. The next two races will take place in two weeks (2./3. May) at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. As usual, Eurosport is going to broadcast the event two hours of broadcasting and a 26-minute magazine programme on all three World Series by Renault categories.
