OAKSEY HOUSE, the Injured Jockeys Fund’s flagship development, has opened in Lambourn.
Oaksey House provides sheltered accommodation for retired jockeys in need. The facility will also crucially offer much wider help, including a physiotherapy and remedial service, which will be available not just to the residents, but to current jockeys and the racing workforce in the
Lambourn area. This has been made possible by a three-year funding commitment by betfair.
On taking receipt of the keys, Brough Scott, Chairman of the Injured Jockeys Fund, commented:
“This not only marks a great day for the Injured Jockeys Fund, but also the start of something new and exciting for the racing community in Lambourn and much further afield.”
The Fund’s Chief Executive Jeremy Richardson said: “
betfair’s generous support has allowed us to fulfil our vision of creating something that will enable the generations to mix and provide a service to the riding workforce of Lambourn. The Betfair Wing includes a gym and sauna and, when needed, physiotherapy and, possibly, other services. Our dream is for it to become a hive of activity, so that the residents can feel part of a really lively centre.”
betfair’s CSR Manager Georgina Corbett added: “Betfair is proud to have contributed to such a sustainable project which will benefit the entire racing workforce of Lambourn, both past and present. Dr Anna-Louise Mackinnon, the jockey’s doctor funded by Betfair and the IJF, will also work from Oaksey House so it is the ideal project for us to support.”
